Do we worry too much? Is it healthy?

Friday, February 19th, 2010

It is normal and human to worry about what is important to us, however we can go to the extreeme and tax our health by worrying too much. We need to consider the things we worry about, categorize them and prioritize. I could make a list of the things to do today, what must be done, what needs to be done, what should be done, trivial things should not take us to the grave so early in life.
I have to remind myself of something I read in The New Testament : ” Therefore I sayto you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns: yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field , how thay grow:they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glor was not arrayed like one of these. NOw if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you. O you of little faith? In summary this says to me that we must put our trust and faith in God daily. What do you think?

Healthy lives

I remember back in school they always tried to tell us how eating right is better than eating our little bag of chips and candy. But yet after school you would finds tons of chocolate wrappers and bags all over the floor. Now a day we see that things really have not changed too much. The sweets are still winning the kids hearts while healthy picks stay on the shelves. Whenever they talked about eating right, they pointed to that food pyramid that never seemed to make sense to anyone. Really, they were just telling us how to live good healthy lives. Now at my age I know what I can and cannot eat, especially when I can eat them too. Well, since we have ditched the little fruity candies for granola bars I can honestly say I do feel better about myself knowing I’m making an effort to eat and live healthier. Being healthy not only makes you feel better but you also know that you are safe for when it comes to being healthy. Eating healthy also helps you for the future when you want to overcome illnesses. The right foods having the right vitamins can help you with many pass-around illnesses. Good thing I know now because eating healthy helped me put some more years under my belt.

Everyone says that they want to be healthy so this way they live a long good life. But everyone knows that it is not easy to live the healthy lifestyle. One of the key things of living a healthy life is eating right. If you don’t eat right and eat the right things, you can kiss that healthy life goodbye. Now I’m not saying to eat salads everyday for dinner, but don’t be shy with the fruit and vegetable section of the grocery store. Making sure that you eat breakfast in the morning is another key to being healthy. All your vitamins and nutrients are the things that help your body grow and become the healthy body you need. Eating right is the best thing you can do for yourself. Now once you have gotten into the habit of eating healthy, the next step of staying in shape is exercising, which helps the body stay healthy and get into shape if you are not already there. Once you start exercising it will open your eating choices. You must have clear in your mind what the primary function of carbohydrates in the diet is, it provides the major source of energy for the body; the function of protein is to repair body tissues that break down from normal “wear and tear,” to support growth through the synthesis of new tissues and to provide a framework for the body. Bones, muscles, tendons, blood vessels, skin, hair, and nails are all protein-conteining structures. Please make wise food choices, drink plenty of water, walking is a good idea for exercise, keep your mind in tune with God.

Human milk

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

You have to look at multiple studies, each report will add a piece to the complex puzzle of the nutrients that make up human milk. Even with all the present knowledge, the answer to the question how much volume does a baby consume at a feeding? To say the least the answer remains to be a scientific challange.

The analysis available shows that milk brings both nutrients and nonnutritive signals to the neonate. Most human milks contain the nutrients for physical growth and new logical development.
Depending on the density of the milk the results are like night and day. When the offspring develops rapidly, the milk is dense; when it develops slowly, the milk is more dilute. The contents of all milks consist of fat, carbohydrate and proteins, minerals, vitamins and other nutrients.
Human milk is considered a body fluid and it is not a uniform fluid but a secretion of the mammary gland of constantly changing composition.
There are differences among the milks- Colostrum, transitional and mature milks. Foremilk differs from hindmilk.
Milk changes over time of day and as time goes by. The impact of the changes are felt by the infant’s gut.
Colostrum is the very first milk, it is very concentrated in its nutrients, just what baby needs at first, as baby grows the milk also changes to the right concentration of nutrients for his or her age.

Viva mas, comiendo menos!

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Interpretation

Friday, February 12th, 2010

We make our own interpretation of the things we hear, we see and in general of the things that we experience in life. I remember hearing my mother singing in the morning and saying to us that
if the birds praise God with their songs, we should at least talk to Him before we start our day.
She repeated this ritual enough times, that I can still hear it in my head. I think it was a good practice, because it encouraged me to commit myself to the things that are of most importance, God and people.
With God in my life today I will continue to love people and let his love be conveyed through the kindness and care that can only come from Him. God is good, even though things do not go our way all the time. We do get stronger when we have experiences in life that provide growth opportunities. We need to remember that we are not alone in this world, even if we were the only person in it. Praise God!

My morning thought

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I was just thinking how greatful I am to God for saving my soul. I am free to love, to do all the good that I can do even, without thinking about it. Committing my day to God helps me to love myself and not to be so self-critical. I can be very hard on myself if I forget that God loves me and he wants what is best for me.Sometimes when things do not go so well and I feel as if I were in a free fall, I have to remind myself that God is there to pick up the pieces after the big splat!
I think of God as my father and a true friend. Perhaps I can think of him as a father because I had a good father kind and loving, however firm. I can think of him as a friend because my father was a friend in many ways, he was always there for me.
My earthly father is gone physically, but he lives in my heart he goes with me everywhere I go. My heavenly father is with me also, and someday I will be able to see both of them face to face. In the mean time I will continue to make use of my free will to choose what is right.

Health

Preventive Medicine is very fascinating to me, particularly pressure points, massage, energy medicine.
I have used some non-drug therapeutic modalities to help many of my friends and relatives with common ailments.

I find great satisfaction when I am able to help someone who was afflicted by some ailment and now is free from it, furthermore if the person wants to learn what to do, so that he or she can be empowered to do what needs to be done in order to stay in good condition, I am elated.

Not too long ago I learned an exercise to improve and maintain good memory, it is called the Four Memory Pumps:
1. Sit comfortably, rub your head with fingers or knuckles, make sure to take deep breaths during this exercise.
2. Place your right hand on the middle of your chest and at the same time place your left hand on your head and forehead.
3. Take three deep breaths as you keep your right hand on your chest let your left hand rub your head with your fingers as you maintain your left palm on your forehead.
4. Move your left hand to the middle of your chest as the right hand is placed on the right side of your head. Take three deep breaths and relax.

This exercise is to benefit your memory by bringing cerebrospinal fluid to the head.

Try it!!!

Alzheimer’s Disease according to Mary Tierney, PH.D., of the University of Toronto may be prevented or delayed.

Monday, February 8th, 2010

She says that exercising throughout your life boosts brainpower as you age. Women who did an average of three hours and 20 minutes of moderate exercise a week such as brisk walking, playing volleyball-all through their adult lives were better multitaskers, could pay attention longer and had better short-term-memory. She also mentions that the key is moderate, since long-term strenuous activity has the opposite effect.

Alzheimer’s Disease is a very devastating problem for families and their loved ones. It robs the family of their father, mother, sister, brother. The body is present, however the mind is not. The fact is that when the person who has Alzheimer’s realizes that there is something not quite right with his or her memory, this fact turns into a very repetitive frightening experience.

One of my friends was telling me about her heart breaking experience. With tears rolling down her cheeks , Kelly was expressing how much she misses her mother who is now in the last stages of Alzheimer’s. Her mother is only 52 years old, her dear mother has been afflicted by this horrible illness for about 10 years. She was telling me how her sister, her father and her take turns taking care of her mother’s basic needs twenty four seven. How much they are grieving, but at the same time, she conveyed how grateful they are that her mother is not alone and has a family who loves her and takes care of her now.
