We need to practice summer safety, it is not safe to leave children in a car during any time of the year. Part of parenting is to make sure our children are safe, at all times. How can you live with yourself if your child dies because of your negligence? When the body dies no one can bring it back to life, it is that simple. There is a plethora of terrible true stories about children left in a hot car by their parent, during a triple digit weather, where the end of the story is tragic and undeniable loss of the child. The best advise to avoid this problem is a simple one. Do not do it, do not leave your child in the car, it is a safety issue and a love issue. Love your child, keep him or her safe, keep them where you can see them all the time. Children are a precious gift, and a blessing from God. We must take good care of them. Let us be responsible, loving, careful, jealous in the good sense of the word, compassionate, patient, take our children with us wherever we go as long as is appropriate. If you must leave them, leave them with someone trustworthy and with good common sense, to at all cost avoid harm.

Hot weather and dehydration!
July 18th, 2010We must be vigilant when the summer temperature increases and reaches dangerous high levels. The children and the elderly are most vulnerable to extreme temperatures, they are both our treasures, therefore if we want to help keep them intact take special care.
Our hydration is important, the human body is 45% to 75% water. It is important to maintain our body’s fluid balance. The percentage varies from person to person, it mainly depends on the body fat and age of the individual. Since fat is mainly water free, thin individuals tend to have more body water than someone with extra fatty layers, in proportion to body weight. Age is also a factor, young children have more water in proportion to their body weight. A man has about 65% of body water, a woman 55% due to the fat that she carries around, which is more than the fat that an average man carries. Age is also a factor, as we age our body water decreases. We must keep in mind the importance of keeping ourselves hydrated. Drinking water, ingesting liquids is very key, normally drinking to quench our thirst is good . Drinking 8-10 glasses of water is ideal. We have to be cognizant about the dangers of drinking excessive amounts of water. Too much water is not good for anyone, a person can die from too much water intake. Another thing to consider is that drinking beer while working outdoors is the worse thing, this action keeps you dehydrated, because of the alcohol. If you live with diabetes take special care, avoid extreme temperatures and keep hydrated, eat a balanced diet, do not drink alcohol, it makes your sugar levels increase.
If you are pregnant it is imperative that you keep hydrated any time, during the summer you are more prone to dehydration, this is a problem for your unborn baby, if you are dehydrated you can go into early or preterm labor. Your body knows and warns you, you need to drink fluids, avoid getting dehydrated. Love your body, feed it and water it appropriately daily.
Are you stressed right now?
July 18th, 2010The first step to help yourself with your own stress is to accept that you are under stress. You must do that first. Now, you have acknowledge your stress, think of what is giving you the most stress, sit down and hold your forehead with one hand and the back of your head with the other hand, taking 6 slow and deep cleansing breaths while you do this, do it for about 3 minutes if you have the opportunity. You will be amazed at the results. Another thing you may try is placing your fingers, starting with your thumbs on your temples, put the rest of your fingers in the middle of your forehead, right above the bridge of the nose. Apply light pressure pulling the skin as if stretching it. Taking 6 slow and deep cleansing breaths repeat the process if you find it relaxing and healing. You should be feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Your uniqueness is your ticket to success!
July 17th, 2010God made us unique, in a way sort of like the snowflakes. Not a single snowflake is identical. As we learn about ourselves, our , likes, dislikes, what makes us tick, what annoys us, what makes us happy, what drives us, what keeps us getting up in the morning to take the challenges of the day, when we are able to see the big picture about ourselves, we can then and only then channel our energies in the right direction, knowing our strengths is pivotal to everything we do.
Fructity is the result of using your strengths to fulfill your life”s dreams.Play your strengths, use them in your everyday activities, at work, at play, etc. Everyone benefits when you play your strengths, without a doubt! Especially you. You are born with certain strengths, if you pay close attention to how children act at different times, you can start to see what their strengths are, those strengths are the same when they become adults. People really do not change, they just grow older.
When you are born, you are who you are, you were born with strengths, your parents are to train you in the way that you should go, enabeling your strengths to develope and grow so you continue to become more of what you already are.
Your strengths come from God, you must stay connected to him, seek his face, you will only get stronger. Only success can come from your strength connection with him.
Reading helps your communication skills!
July 13th, 2010Communication skills are also improved by the reading material you select, the more you read, the better you will be able to communicate your thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Your brain gets a work out when you read, your memory also improves.
Choose reading material that will enrich your vocabulary, remember that words have power. If you have children, make sure you are using appropriate words. Children repeat the words you say, when you least expect it. I am positive you can think of some occasion when your child repeated something you candidly said about someone. It can be embarrassing if words used by you were not kind.
Do not take your brain for granted. Your brain is a magnificent computer, take advantage of your intact brain. Feed your brain good physical food and spiritual food. Reading and good nutrition are key factors to keep your brain intact and in excellent condition. Your brain’s temporal lobe is a wonderful station, your brain’s speech center. It is able to interpret the meaning of words. Thanks to the Wernicke’s and Broca’s area of your brain, you can comprehend words and are able to repeat the words. Not every one is as blessed as you are, some people can never read, and interpret words. Make use of the gift of reading and pass it on!
Efficient communication best remedy part 2
July 11th, 2010Efficient communication is a lifesaver, it makes the difference between having a good relationship and loosing a good relationship. If you want to have a successful relationship you must invest some time acquiring the skills required to be a better communicator. Good relationships are priceless, good investments for life. When you invest yourself and prepare yourself, searching for the best ways to communicate with those around you, the results are amazing. You can not help but attract positive people, and positive events and things happening to you. Remember that whatsoever things are lovely and good and worthy you must think on those things, keep these good thoughts in mind and in your heart, thus only good things can emanate from your mouth, good words, good expressions, from your heart good intentions, good deeds. Seek to understand the other person’s concerns, let the other person know that you acknowledge his or her concerns, if necessary gather more information, so you can make an informed decision when choosing your words.
As a good communicator you empower yourself and also empower the other person, this makes for a better relationship. If you are trying to teach something to your children, finding the right moment, not any moment will do, finding those teachable moments is essential, so that listening can take place thus clear communication.
Communication is the best remedy!
July 10th, 2010Communication is the spice of life, we can communicate with our family, our coworkers, our neighbors, and when we decide to go shopping with the cashier, or if we go to the bank with the bank clerk, or with the bank manager . We can even communicate with our pets. Communication is part of our everyday lives, thus the great importance we need to place in the way we communicate.
We communicate in many levels, depending on what kind of relationship we have with the other individual. Some research indicates that words are only a small part of our communication, which seems to tell me that we communicate a great deal with our body language, nonverbal cues.
To have a productive communication with anyone we must connect with the other person’s thoughts and feelings, this creates mutual understanding, providing the other person does the same, then problem solving and creative thinking can emerge.
It is imperative that we sharpen up our communication skills if we want to have a better day at work, at home, just every place we go. Good communication allows us to be more assertive, not aggressive, and keeps the avenues open for both parties to disagree agreeably.
How can we communicate effectively? Some ideas that can lead you in the right direction are using , using common sense approach, listening to the other person, show genuine interest in what the other person has to say, ask for clarification if needed, to make sure you have heard correctly. Obviously every situation is unique and it requires case specific response, however if you develop your own style to communicate effectively and use a systematic approach depending on the case by case basis you will acquire a repertoire for most situations. After you practice, it will seem effortless, and people will feel comfortable around you.
Think or create in your mind different scenarios of every day real events where you and another person are active participants, for instance: you notice that your son or daughter drives too fast when going to school, you may try saying something like, ” I am concerned about your safety, please follow the speed limit signs” you notice in this statement you are not being judgemental, only expressing concern, and giving direction.
Forgiveness can change your life! Part 2
July 5th, 2010You can acquire internal peace as you decide to forgive. Perhaps the person who has hurt you or has done you wrong has long passed away. Forgiveness does at this point only affect you in a good way, because the other person does not know anything anymore, does not have a chance to talk to you to ask for your forgiveness. If you want to live in peace, with inner contentment, serenity, abundant peace of mind, you must let go of the hostile, vitriol, caustic and bitter feelings you are presently hosting in your heart towards this person . These feelings can only cause you to shorten your life. As you relate and fellowship with others, your bitterness comes across, negativity is conveyed dwarfing your relationships.
Take baby steps and make a decision to forgive today, we can not really forget what has occur to us, because anything that happens to us is part of our life learning experiences, and we should take it as such. God has ask us to forgive, we should forgive however, we need to be wise and know that forgiveness does not mean we have to always reconcile. For instance if someone has done a horrible act to us, we must not reconcile with that person even though we have forgiven him or her. Forgiveness does not call for reconciliation, we must stay away from that person because we do not deserve to be hurt over and over.
Forgiveness can change your life!
July 4th, 2010“Bloom where you are planted”, I take it as an invitation to do the best I can wherever I go, wherever I am, making use of the resources available to me. What does blooming where you are planted have to do with forgiveness? It is very simple, really. The moment you do not forgive, you stop growing. If someone has done something you perceive as invasive, annoying, inappropriate, even obscene, unpleasant, disgusting, in some way offensive to you, and you find it difficult to forgive, or unforgivable in your eyes, keeping lists of the things that “someone has done to me”, and holding grudges, unhealthy chemical reactions start taking place in your body. God knows what is good for your body that is why he said to forbear and forgive one another. When you truly forgive, you come to have the peace and understanding that can only come from God. No body else can give you that peace. You then, can continue to peacefully live with yourself because you had releasedthe unhealthy grudges that can only drag you down, making you a prisoner of your own unforgiving heart. You have created your own unpleasant environment, by choosing not to forgive, relationships can not develop, friendships are at a stand still. Love has to be a part of your life, mind and soul, so you can forgive and forbear those who had done you wrong. Forgiving is the secret to living a full and joyous life.
